Seats

Sebastian, a week or so ago, was asking about seating in the
cockpit. I built seats for the coaming, rather like Tom Lochhaas
reported.

We have one for each side. The seat is about 15 to 20 cm higher than
the top of the coaming. Each seat looks somewhat like a miniature
stool. The 2 legs in front are from one piece of wood and have the
insides curved to exactly fit across the coaming. Same for the 2
legs at the back, but a different curve to allow for the coaming
being narrower and lower... you want the seat to come out level. It
took some fiddling with paper patterns to get the curves right. Each
seat stays firmly in its place, and fits only one side because of the
slopes and tapers of coamings.

I made them because we were going cruising for a year, it was
tiresome stretching up to see, and uncomfortable sitting on the
coamings themselves. For steering, I use a seat all the time, can
see over the dodger and avoid hitting things.
