Just noticed a news article about a device called "reliefband", an over the counter device that uses electrical pulses to stimulate the median nerve in your wrist, presumably to interrupt any "be sick" signals that your brain sends to your stomach. Anybody have experience in using this this device?

Relief Band worked for me

I was on a trip offshore recently from Miami to Fort Myers in some rough seas. I put the relief band on AFTER I was almost incapacitated from seasickness. 30 Minutes later I was feeling fine. I used it whenever I felt even queasy and had a great trip from that point on. Several people on the boat with me bought one after the trip. They said they had never seen someone get better like that after being sick. Be advised they do not work for everybody but they work for a good percentage of people. I now have 4 of them on board.

My wife swears by it.

She gets sea sick at the drop of a hat and usually sets it on level three.

Which ones of these have you bought?

The throw away ones or the ones that you can replace the battery in?

Hit or Miss...then there is always Bonine

I carry two on board. My wife, who battles seasickness, tried them during a lengthly passage. No help, but she was using scop patches simultaneously and we theorized that somehow they were working at odds with one another. There is always Bonine...seems to work for everyone....and puts a pain in the ass crew member to sleep!! I have had great luck with reduced (less that a whole pill) doses of Bonine to combat the sleepiness. Once you find your right level, the world is a much better place. Remember, the pill manufacturer wants you to take the whole pill so you will buy more pills sooner. I am 6'1" 200 lbs and a whole Bonine is too much for me.

She uses the one with the replacement batteries. We bought it at Boat U.S. after she missed the seasickness bag and hit the cockpit during a 3-4 foot following sea (thank God for saltwater washdown pumps!).

My girlfriend is the worst...

when it comes to seasickness...she's tried all of the remedies, however, the reliefband seems to be the best. She still gets a bit queezey(?) even in light conditions, however, this little device works the best so far. Buy it on their website though (www.reliefband.com) because West Marine and Boat US tack on an extra $30.00...Good luck out there...

Bonine

Bonine works wonderful. We've sailed the Caribbean, Pacific Coast/Costa Rica, Atlantic, never ever get sick. Would try some of the sailing we have done without it!
