I'm looking at buying an inexpensive tender to be used on occasion (~once or twice a month) that can be packed away (roll up inflatable) and have narrowed my choices down to the SeaEagle 8.6FT, SevyTex SVX250, and SevyMarine SV9. They are all similarly priced at $700-900 new. I already have a small (2.5 hp) outboard to use with it. Does anyone have an opinion on any of these inflatables? Are there other options/suggestions?

Probably Adequate

I have a "Fish Hunter 280" that I bought about this time last year at 75% off at the PX I think I paid about $35. Check out shipstore.com they all things Sevylor. It is a great little boat for the price especially with the deal I got.

PVC is okay if you put it away..........

Al: PVC is an ok fabric if you put it away (keep it out of the sun), do not abrade it and do not get fuel on it. It is not very repairable. For the price range you are spending, I'd either look for a good used Hypalon unit or spend another few hundred on something like an Achilles. Be sure that what ever you get, that it either has an inflatable floor or slats like the one you are looking at. The plywood floors are difficult to install unless you are on shore.

Sea Eagle 8.6FT

For the last couple of years, several members of my sailing club have been using Sea Eagles as tenders. They recommended it to me. I purchased the Sea Eagle 8.6 in April and have used it alot. I store it in the quarter berth when not in use. It can be inflated on my deck and dropped in the water in about twenty minutes. It does well with my 2.5hp outboard. It also rows well. I heard Sea Eagle had problems with the seams on boats manufactured in 1999. I understand they changed the glue and have corrected the problem. Sea Eagle sells the 8.6FT on Ebay and you should be able to purchase a new one for about 640.00 plus delivery. If you want an inexpensive inflatable to be stored on your boat the Sea Eagle will meet your needs. It is PVC and will not hold up well if left in the weather. Ed Hopkins S/V Mistress
