Hunter 36 Punta Gorda
Well our new hunter 36 was splashed last week and I went for the final inspection on thursday and was very impressed with hunter and Sailing Specialties CT. We were to take her out for our first sail but with the fog and rain yesterday the admiral decided to stay home and wait for a better day. There are some miner things that need taking care of before she will come home to Long Island so hopefully the weather will be better next week. This my second new hunter purchase and I thought my first dealer was great but I gotta tell you that Sailing Specialties Ct. is a top natch dealer, they go above and beyond making sure everything is perfect. Nick,

I know the neighborhood well cause my kids live in Southhold and I'm always running around between Islip and Southold, great sailing area and I'm hoping to spend some time this summer there when I bring my 32 O'Day around to CT. for an ODay owners get together in Milford so maybe we'll meet cause Greenport is always a stopover.

Believe it or not, no - I'm still waiting. I requested to be in by the 3rd week of April. Someone who bought a Mainship last fall stored in the water in my slip. I guess he thinks he has squatter's rights to it now as he's apparently in no hurry to move it. I'm getting more aggravated by the minute.

Congratulations

Congratulations, boat looks great. I bought my 356 in 2002 from Sailing Specialties and I agree they are a great dealer. Now the next question; when are you sailing to Florida? And bring Sharon and Brian along John

Nick, sailing to Florida is all inside except for

the Jersey coast. You can take as long as you like or you can push on without stopping to smell the roses. Plan to start before the first of October in any year.

How's the 36

I know how you're feeling right about now.... are we there yet?? My wife is actually looking at the brochure at the 36's right now and the larger aft-cabin. The low head room and small area to stand in the aft cabin maybe the only excuse to move up..... maybe. ;)

So Far Good

I have been spending a lot of time on my 36 at the dock while she is getting commissioned and so far I am impressed with all the room she has, compared to my previous 290 she is big with plenty of storage and much more amenities. I'll let you all know has she does. Nick

Congrats

That is a nice boat. Lots and lots of room. A friend of mine has one, and we just took it over to Pennsacola for the summer. Others are right, about going south. You can stay inside all the way, once you get to Cape May. That is approx. a 24 hour run, from Sandy Hook. The two bridges on the canal between Cape May and Deleware Bay, are listed at 50'. I made it under by waiting for a dead low tide, and with my 55' it was a real squeaker. Did drag my VHF antenna pretty good. I think your boat needs 56', so you will either have to wait on a real low tide, or go around. The clearances are marked on the bridge though. Some very nice sight seeing along the way, good anchorages almost everywhere. Did it last fall, from Raritan Bay, back to New Orleans, and the fall before from LI to central Fla. Without hurrying along it takes about two months, or as long as you want to spend en route. Or you can push pretty hard, and make it a little quicker. I would also agree about leaving early. I left this past fall on Oct.13, and we froze our buts off coming down the Jersye coast.
