Seacock

So, Ihave this 1.5" bronze seacock sitting in my basement. It seems to be almost identical to the seacocks sold by Spartan marine. The difference being that at the top of the seacock, where I could expect a hose barb it is smooth (see pic). This seacock is probably from 1977 or earlier as it came off a PY26, and I am wondering whether the "barbless design" could be original or is something that has been monkeyed with.

Many thanks in advance.

That is original. Some came with a fixed hose adapter and some came with a threaded on hose adapter. That looks like a Wilcox Crittenden. Check for a WC logo on it.. A Spartan handle will fit it and Paul at Spartan can get you one. Lots of folks throw those out but they are some of the best seacocks ever built and can last 40 years+..

Looks like the type that is not intended to be connected to anything. It's only purpose was to be opened to scuttle the boat. Like drug smugglers might do.

Many thanks for the reply.

You are correct, it is in fact a Wilcox Crittenden seacock.

Am I correct is assuming that nothing special is required in terms of attaching a hose? (i.e. 2 clamps 180 deg. offset etc.)?

Thanks again

You are correct. Personally I use only AWAB non-perforated hose clamps for below waterline use. I have seen far to many failures of perforated clamps to feel comfortable using them below water..

Would I be correct in assuming that the WC seaseacock has NPS threads? Reason for the question is that I went to buy a new through hull this weekend and the threads only engaged very little (just like your description of a thread mis match).

Thanks in advance
