I want to replace the old brass cockpit drain valve with a newer style seacock ball valve. I'm sure several of you out there have done it and I'm looking for input, suggestions, etc. Was it a difficult job and can you really take out the old valve without damaging the fiberglas on the "volcano" under the cockpit? There is no place under the valve to hold the pipe nipple. If the pipe nipple does turn what is the best way to reseal it?

I seem to be posting this every other week or so. You really need to try the archives first. Look in the Archives for "Thru Hulls Submitted by Garry @ S/V TASHTEGO on 07/13/2001 at 11:39AM regarding Catalina 27"
