Help, As I feared there is no way to input 2000 for the setup of the magnetic deviation on my Sea Ranger Loran... Anyone know who owns Sea Ranger these days... I know the unit is software upgradeable but did anyone take the time to write the patch... Anyone been here before? Bob

If you ever find out....

please post the answer. I have one and didn't even think of the problem until I saw your post. If it turns out it hasn't been done, I guess I'll just run with 99'. How far off can it be????

How far off...

Thats a good question... It will continue to provide accurate distance and speed information between waypoints, however the difference in magnetic deviation between this year and last year will be large enough to make accurate navigation an issue. If we had that number we could work up a handicap of sorts perhaps... I will attempt to find this out...

I just looked at one of my charts......

and the annual increase up on Long Island Sound is 2'(minutes annually). For the navagation we do up here, I think it's negligible. It would be nice to be able to enter 00 but if I can't, I guess I'll live with it....

Yeah I tried it too...

Yeah, I tested against some of my preprogrammed waypoints this weekend, and had good success. You are right, the difference appears negligable. I get to put off GPS for another year!

BUY A GPS

With the hand help GPS prices so reasonable now, why don't you buy one. They are so accurate, can be used anywhere, tell you what bearing to take to the next waypoint and what your ETA is based on current speed over the ground. For less than $200. bucks.
