I am planning to sail down the Sea of Cortez in the spring. My plan is to stay fairly close to the Mexico side in a Hunter 23. Have you had experience in this or similar boat in this water? Muchas Gracias TB

oh yeah!

you are gonnahave fun! I did the trip 2 years ago, spent a month with my 260 and it was great! scour the archives and you will find many threads about it. San Carlos is a great place to put in. just do your homework and have your ducks in a row when crossing the border re, insurance, registrations, etc. You will have the adventure of a lifetime.

Hi Tommy, Good luck. I have not sailed my Vision 32 in open waters but when you get to Puerto Valarta (if you get that far) look me up. There are a few small ports to the north of me that are Ok but have minimal facilites. Good Luck Richard

San Carlos

I'm located in Marina Real in San Carlos. Regarding weather in the summer, I rely on Buoyweather.com but find that it's less accurate in the summer then during the winter. It appears the land weather patterns are harder to predict in the summer then the weather patterns during the winter. In the Fall, the wind clocks North and you will find that most days the wind is from the N to NW. The wind pattern changes during the spring and clocks back to the S / SW. The prettiest part of the Sea of Cortez is on the W side. Start from Lapaz and work your way north. There are no good anchorages South of San Carlos/Guaymas until you get to PV. So, your best bet if you plan to cross is to do so from Lapaz. You may find that it makes sense to sail down and ship your boat back from SC. Marina Seca in San Carlos can make all arrangements for you. Hope this helps. Ken S/V Little Nesi Hunter 380
