Sea of Cortez

I am planing a trip to Sea of Cortez next year and would like to know when would be the best time to go. I am trying to avoid the strong winds if possible and would like to know when that area has winds that are manageable, lets say up to 18k winds. This would be my first big blue water trip so would like to make the first one as smooth as possible without getting myself in big trouble. Thanks.

I went in late April of this year....

and launched from Guaymas/San Carlos. I'd recommend early May. The winds were okay but the water was still pretty chilly for snokeling and swimming. Too late in May and into the summer and you will be sweltering.By the way, talking to the cruisers that were down there, they said you just get used to the wind because it always seems to blow. I noted that a morning to early afternoon sail to each destination and an early anchor for recreation and eating was the ticket.We sailed up to Bahia San Pedro, then hopped back down to Guaymas/San Carlos.
