Just a short question.I am thinking of sailing down the Sea of Cortiz next year and would like to know if anyone has been there, and what is the best way to get there, especially coming from NM.Are the roads rough, are there many places to pull in, especially coming down from the Nort portion, etc. Need a little run down on the area. Also, can the 26x do well in seas and going 80 miles or so. Thanks

Check this site...

You might want to check out www.cruisecortez.com (link below) There's lots of good info there about cruising the Sea and much of it is oriented towards trailerables. You might get some good info on this site too!

You'll love it

The Sea of Cortez is beautiful and amazing. Watch the weather forecasts and you'll be fine. I can't tell you anything about trailering down but we cruised there when I was a teenager & have nothing but fantastic memories about the area and the people. The site Miles mentioned is an excellent resource too! LaDonna

check the trailersaylor.com site. One of there forums is on the Sea of Cortez. I've enjoyed looking at many of the articles. Lots of pictures, also.

I just did that in April...

My wife and I drove down from the SF Bay area in mid-April and did better than a week on the Sea of Cortez. Cross at Nogales and take the major highway all the way to San Carlos. The San Carlos Marina is friendly and helpful and CHEAP!!! Launching was $2.00 each way, overnight with our 26S was $10.00. We sailed north about 25 miles (Bahia San Pedro) then hopped back down anchor by anchor. I loved it, my wife decided she doesn't care for ocean water sailing. The snorkling was great, the weather fine and the winds aplenty. I'd do it again next year, but I don't think my bride is up for it. Get your food at Nogales, take money for the toll roads and have your insurance from a Mexican company. It took me about four months to plan and organize my whole trip. You'll love it.
