I have been offered a used Sea Eagle 9 at a better than reasonable price. Does anyone have experience with this product? My use would be simply as a tender from an anchorage to the shore. All opinions appreciated. Andy s/v Baroque

Sea Eagle

I had a similar Sea eagle 8 for a number of years. The main thing is that these are built of un-reinforced vinyl (like the Sevelor boats) so they use low air pressure and are not very rigid. This limits rowing or motoring performance. On the good side, they are built with a relatively thick vinyl, so they wear better and are not as subject to leaks as the "drugstore" inflatables. If you just need a boat that floats, and that you can row a short distance to the shore and back, they work fine. If you want to go longer distances faster and more efficiently, get a reinforced fabric boat like a Zodiac type. Sea Eagle also now makes a Sport line using a reinforced fabric.

Sea Eage Fine For Short Runs

Just bought a new Sea Eagle 8 a few weeks ago and used it for a tender from anchorage to shore...rowing short distances, less than half a mile. It did fine even in a bit of a chop with two people aboard. Clearly not the same as the higher priced inflatables, but seemd fine for our light use. Good Luck... Jim

Sea Eagle

Had use of a Sea Eagle a couple of years ago. After 2 seasons the boat rotted from sun exposure and completely fell apart. It's performance was okay from the rowing standpoint. Just keep it out of the sun. I've learned that with inflatables, like with most things, you get what you pay for. Good luck!

Challenger

The bill for the launch service went up to over $850 this year. So they lost a customer. I now use a challanger 9made by INTEX)4 person vinyl inflatable with a 1 HP air cooled CRUSE-N-CARRY motor. The vinyl is about 50% thicker than the Selvor model. I bought the boat several years ago in Price Club for less than $60.00 The motor cost about $150 on the internet. It was a close out I don't think the are made any longer. The great part of this set up is the boat weight about 20 lbs and can be put on my car or can in about 30 seconds. The motor weighs less than 15 lbs. I have to go about 1/4 mile from the launch point to the moorings and the little hummer (sounds kind of like a 2 cycle leaf blower) works great. The boat came with 2 oars so in an emergency you can row. It does Ok but the engine is a better trick. When I'm sailing I can tow the boart, put it on the deck alone or let the air out and stow it. It was nice to have a taxi driver but the pocketbook won out. Any one out ther used the Cruse-N-Carry.

Sea eagle 10'6

I bought one recently as a tender and use a suz 6 on it. Plenty of room etc however I've got a leak at the transom somewhere. To be fair , I bought this from their re conditioned inventory for a few hundred less than new. Looks like I'm sending it back to replace it with another. I liked the design well enough, especially for the price. Joris
