Now that "America's finest city" is now "America's brokest city" (thanks to Dick Murphy and the rest of the parasites on the council) It seems that cutting the budget means closing the last free mooring in Cali. What I'm wondering is, who determines who gets to use all the moorings in the bay. There are several mooring locations most have boats, that as far as I can tell, have a permanent spot on that mooring. But the official word is that these moorings are for temporary usage and you must have a permit... So whats the deal with all the boats that are obviously permanently moored? do they own the mooring? or do they have a buddy in the Harbor police? have they been grandfathered in? I don't want to casue trouble but I'd like to know what the real rules to the SD Bay mooring scene are.

start calling the local law enforcement people

states attorneys, harbor masters, pollution control people. The answers are out there. As a last resort just go out and start setting a few boats adrift and see who responds. ;)

What is being closed is the A-8 anchorage

which was free but will require a permit now. See the link to The Log about the cleanup there and reasons cited, http://www.thelog.com/news/newsview.asp?c=198322 There are some transient anchorages and mooring fields but there are also some permanent ones run by private contractor San Diego Mooring Company. http://www.sandiegomooring.com/

Mooring Office

Try calling the Mooring Office (619-686-6227) and they should be able to answer all your questions. I call them any time I want to anchor in La Playa or Glorietta Bay and they have issued me permits over the phone. They are easy to work with and their office is on the Embarcadero on Harbor Drive just south of Laurel Street.

moorings

I have gotten permits for anchorage in Playa Cove but those are only good for 72 hours as far as I can remember. After looking at the map from the SD Mooring site I see that they own the moorings I was wondering about so it looks like I got my answer. I thought that they were going to stop issuing any permits for the A8 Anchorage not just require a permit. I think they always required a 6 month permit but it was renewable and free. Leave it to a few pirates to spoil it for everyone... It won't be long before SD and TJ merge anyway. Hey anybody hear anything about final construction at Pier 32?

If A-8

Is located in the middle of South Bay, I'd wish they'd get rid of it. Would give us more room to sail there. South Bay has the best sailing in San Diego.
