So I did the ultimate no-no and scratched my dark-blue gelcoat with a plastic scrubby pad. Lots of fine circular scratches - like a tangle of angel-hair pasta. I didn't even notice until it all dried. Of course, by THAT time I'd "cleaned" alot of surface area! So, am I doomed, or is there a way to buff this out?

compound

There are various compounds w/ different grits. Nomally you would start w/ the coarsest first, then work your way to the next finest, making sure all preceding scratches were removed before moving to the next. Yours sound very light. I would try one of the combination wax/compound products first. 3M makes several also w/ different grits. Look at it like sanding a piece of wood. If you start to fine you'll be at it forever, if you start to course you'll be removing more material then neccessary. With yours I would start light & go courser if needed. Hope this helps

Scratches

Stay away from wax/compound combo products. They are really not effective....
