Scope Strainer

I have a scoop strainer thruhull which was installed with a locking nut and valve threaded directly to the thru hull. I am replacing all of my thruhulls with tri-flange adapters on G-10 backing blocks which are drilled and tapped for the tri-flange adapter. I'd like to keep the scoop installed as is. Is there a way to bond the backing block to the hull and then install the tri-flange adapter without removing the scoop strainer thruhull? I can't see a way to screw the tri-flange adapter onto the thruhull and have everything line up to allow the adapter to be bolted down and still have everything snug.

Imho, you will want to remove the strainer to properly rebed it. I have replaced all my thru-hulls and found a separate cover mounted over the outside of the intake made the most sense for me. If you want to use the strainer again it has nps threads so using a bronze adapter with a nps thread will allow you room to orient the scoop aft and still seal it with sufficient sealer though it seems like a lot of unnecessary work. If you insdead use a separate cover over the intake that will also allow for easier clean outs. For the amount of work it takes to do a thru-hull, the parts are cheap.
Good luck and marinehowto.com details the proper methods as does captwaynecanning youtube video.
