Save my strainer

The 2 threaded coverplate hold downs on my engine raw water strainer feel like they are stripping. Can you just replace them? They appear to have pins holding them to the body. It's a '91 Hunter 30. I don't know who makes the strainer but I could go back out this weekend and take a pic.
I removed the screen to make sure it was clean and I had a little trouble tightening the 2 wingnuts back down. They felt like they were slipping on the threads.

When you go back to your boat, take the wingnuts to a hardware store. Try threading them onto a same thread size bolt. Buy one nut, or two, go back to your boat and screw them onto the posts. If they don't tighten, you have found your problem. If they do tighten it's a wingnut problem. That would be an easier fix. BTW, your strainer is probably a Perko. Good luck.

What Roland said. It's probably this one (was on our '91 h30T):

You might be able to order the studs from perko and replace them if all else fails. check for de-zincing of the cover etc. Will bronze will look pink). Time to replace if so. Uncle Dom recently posted he had this issue and replaced his. Mainsail wrote a great article on his site about rebuilding this particular strainer.

I think that is mine. I'll check the wingnuts this weekend. Hopefully the stud threads are stronger than the nuts

How about putting some washers on the bolt as spacers t back the nuts off to good threads??

Some good ideas from you all. Thanks! I was out yesterday but just didn't have time to investigate. I'll make it a priority next time, armed with options.
Got my new waterpump Speed Seal upgrade in the mail all the way from the UK. Didn't have time to install it either.
