Madam Head-Mistress: I have been following your lead for several years but this spring when I opened the hatches under which runs the sanitation hose on my 1992 Hunter Legend 43, it became very obvious that the sanitation hose has absorbed a lot of oder. I think that it is time to replace the hose and maybe the sewage holding tank. I have a fresh water boat and the original tank. Last year I uncovered the tank and saw where there was some corrosion on one of hte nozzles. I reconnected the hose and hope that I am fine. Questions: is the triton still the favored hose? I have seen Sealant hose with a 20 year warrantee. Possibly new on the market. Second, should I replace the tank even if it is not leaking? Where do I get a replacement tank? Ronco, plastic, or see if Hunter still has any? With the replacementy hose do you still recommend glueing in a coupling so that one hose pulls through the other?
Thanks

Answers to your questions

Yes, Trident 101/102 is the recommended sanitation hose. The sbo.com chandlery has it for a very good price. There's never been a single report of odor permeation in all the years it's been on the market. I've seen claims from the few vendors who carry it that Shields new "Marine Poly X" sanitation hose is supposed to have a life-time warranty against odor permeation, but it costs twice as much and I don't know of anyone who's tried it.

If your tank is metal, I'd replace it now . Ronco Plastics Ronco Plastics is your best source. And if it's location is more than about 6' from the toilet, this would be the best time to find a better place to put it.

And finally you asked, "With the replacement hose do you still recommend glueing in a coupling so that one hose pulls through the other?"

Yup.
