Sanitation hose coupling?

I recently had a macerate go bad (again, replaced it a year ago).

In researching I decided to instead install a Whale Gulper diaphragm type toilet pump to do the overboard discharging. The problem I am up against is the macerate had a 1.5" inlet and a 1" hose outlet (which led a short run to the thru hull). The Whale pump has 1.5" inlet and outlet...

So short of changing the thru hull size, I wanted to try stepping down the outlet by coupling 1.5" hose to 1" hose prior to the thru hull connection. But I can't seem to easily find a step-down coupling. Any ideas?

Does my 1 inch thru hull mean I'm stuck using the POS macerators?

The below should work

"HOWEVER" ............... be aware that plastic barbed hose fittings are a complete crap shoot at best.

http://www.usplastic.com/search/?q=barbed+reducer+coupling&view=g

A. Check the thickness of the PVC fitting. They can vary from good to paper thin.

B. Because of A, this is a good reason to never leave a thru-hull open unless it's in use.

C. The dimensions of any barbed hose fitting may or may not quite fit the hose you are using. You may have to go to another brand of PVC fitting to fit your hose or go to another brand of hose to fit your PVC fitting.

Good luck with this and don't get discouraged. Just got through redoing my holding tank and macerator pump and working with plastic barbed fittings can drive you nuts when matching hoses to fittings.

A consideration worth thinking about:

The reason why the output of the macerator can be 1" is that the macerator breaks solids down to a smaller diameter, liquefying them. Your whale gusher won't do that so you will essentially be trying to force 1-1/2" of effluent (solids included) through a reduction by 1/3. If the 1" hose clogs, the pressure you are exerting against the hose barb reducer would likely be great enough to seperate it from the hose. Guess where the poop will go?

I'm sorry but I don't think it's a good idea. I'd replace the macerator and try to figure out why they keep blowing up or put a 1-1/2" thru-hull in the system to discharge the poop without reductions.

More Truer Words ...................

........................... were never spoken.

Most definitely, there will be no blade to break down the solids. The 1-1/2" thru-hull is mandatory. The most likely outcome would be a ruptured diaphragm.

And yes, the reducer coupling is a recipe for a disaster of biblical proportions ........... defnitely worse that locust   .

Well thanks for the advice.
It's frustrating but I will go ahead and install a new macerator. This time I think I will go with the Johnson one since it has stainless steel bolts instead of brass on the Jabsco (which is what blew out - totally corroded).

Thanks
