SANITARY HOSE SIZE FOR REPLACEMENT

I installed Jabsco quiet flush electrc heads, which work great, but they came with 3/4 discharge hose after the built in macerator which I used an adapter to go up to the existing 1 1/2 hose to the tank.

Now I need to replace hose, I know Peggy Hall states in her book to not use any couplings if possible int he run, and I would like to run all 3/4 to the holding tank but the tank fittings re 1 1/2 plastic welded to the tank.. Should I run all 3/4 and just use an adapter at the holding tank or stick with 1 1/2 with adapters at the heads, or is there a way to replace the 90 degree 1 1/2 elbows at the tank with 3/4?

Hunter often used this head as oem equipment so I would be curious how the original setup was plumbed from the factory.

I actually changed out my tank fittings which are not welded, merely threaded to match the discharge size of my macerating toilet. If you think about it, although Peggy didn't agree, it's less problematic to leave the run as small as possible so that you use less water to completely flush the line to the tank. It also lowers the pressure by changing the line to a larger diameter so increases the likely hood of particles clinging to any low spots in the run. Just a thought. I have had no problems so far.

The flush water inlet hoses on ALL toilets are 3/4", but the discharge fitting on Jabsco toilets are actually 1"...they're the only toilet mfr that has ever used 1". However, because 1.5" is--and always has been--the industry standard, several years ago they finally began suppling discharge fittings that can use both 1" and 1.5" hose. And I strongly recommend you get one from Jabsco (Paul Campagna is their toilet tech support guy: 978-282-5246) and use 1.5" hose from toilet to tank, because there may be some advantage to smaller diameter hoses in some applications, there's no there's nothing to be gained by it in a marine toilet discharge hose It won't help your toilet pump get the bowl contents to the tank any faster or push 'em any further. But sea water mineral buildup can block a 1" hose a lot quicker than it will a 1.5" hose.

As for how Hunter did it....boat builders--ALL of 'em!--are the worst sanitation system designers/plumbers on the planet, because to them a sanitation system that's anything more than a toilet that flushes directly overboard is just added expense. So they do it as cheaply as possible. They're defintely not the model you want to follow!
