Hello, Just bought a 1980 Sandpiper. Here are the questions I have: 1 The trailer has 840 pound tires on it, which need to be replaced. Is this the correct load rating for the trailer? Seems a bit tight for the boat weight + trailer 2 The trailer is pretty solid, but has unusual construction. It has coil springs (a bit flattened) and shock absorbers (they are GONE). Anyone have a similar trailer? Did you ever replace the coil springs and or shocks? If so, what parts did you use? If you have an original trailer, I would appreciate a pic. 3 I have a few nicks on the boat. I would like to repair them, and make the repair seamless. My boat is beige. Is there anyway to buy gelcoat and get it colour matched? Thx for your help

Does seem to b lightweight

Hi Mangler. #1 I would agree that your trailer is a bit under sized. The spec weight for a Sandpiper is 1200#. That doesn't include for motor, gear, sails cushions etc, etc. Plus you need to add the weight of the trailer. You may be able to find a nameplate on the trailer that will give you the capicity. I once weighed my boat, motor, trailer, with all my gear, and I was surprised it weighed 2000#. My tailer was a bit oversized in my case, and heavier. #2 I have no experience with. #3 You can buy colour matching gelcoat kits. Mix up your color and hope it works. I think you'll always see the patch, but the nick will be gone. That's called a 6ft patch. Can't see it from 6 ft away:) Eric
