It's all uphill,
many stopover in Oceanside, Dana Point or Newport enroute. Another strategy is to leave at midnight and motor like the devil upcoast while it's glassy and still. Wind blows direct from West, Sat. it was 15 Knots morning to dark, Sun. there was NO wind till 3 PM, from 12 to 3 you would get a little puff that would move the boat to 1.5 Knots, then nothing, boat would come to a stop, 5 minutes another puff. 3 to 5 wind was 5-10 then glassed off at 6. Best to "motorsail" haul-in or drop off a little, engine little over idle, sail at 3.5 to 5 with low fuel use and noise. We have been getting real good wind, but from now on will be more like Sunday was.
