I will be heading out to San Diego for the holidays, escaping the cold midwest winter, and while there was considering chartering a boat, possibly just for a daysail, or maybe for an overnight. Can any of you locals possibly make a recommendation of a chartering outfit that I should check into? Will have the wife and kids with me, and would be looking for something comparable sizewise to what I sail at home, around 35'. I appreciate any suggestions and or guidance that you have to offer. We've had good luck chartering with San Diego Yacht Charters. Done 30 something charters on a Catalina 36 MKII and always had a good time. You can find them on the web at sdyc.com Gary

TJ i bare boat charted the san diego bay 2 years ago. nice. here is the marina that we used. http://www.harborsailboats.com/ it coast us around 550.00 for 24 hours. on a new hunter 35.5, also nice. if you call the coranado yacht club and ask them what the name of the boat rental next to them is (i forgot) you can rent a used catalina 36 for about 350.oo for 24 hours. it is also cool to go to the torry pines glider park and watch the guys step off the 500' cliff in front of you or take a glider ride. have a good trip. San Diego Yacht Charters

San Diego Yacht Chaters has been bought out by Harbor Island Yacht Club. They still have the boats that SDYC had plus thier original fleet. HIYC tends to focus on day rentals (it's a sailing club not a Yacht Club) and SDYC has boats better equiped for overnight and longer. However, both are combined now. You have to call and ask about the SDYC boats, because the website is down right now. They have several Hunters. You can get the phone from the website,
