oday 22 on trailer Asheville NC
for free I got a 22 o'day & loaded it on a power boat trailer at Punta Gordas public ramp, & towed to Asheville NC. The trailer frame is flat ( no v in the cross members ),keel sets on 2 cross members, so the boat sets rather high. I had to improvise higher bunks with 2 x 8's on edge, although it towed nicely during the trip. Can anyone supply me with trailer specs with hitch wgt, boat placement over a 2 axle and bunk details. The trailer is a Magic Tilt made in Clearwater FL. I thought of moving the springs from on top the axles to the underside, that would lower the frame and boat 5 or 6 inches into the water at the ramp and with the tilt may not have to back so far down the ramp. The fenders would have to be raised to clear the tires. I wish folks replying in the forum would put down their e-mail address or is that against the rules. thanks David Sebastian hdsebastian@bellsouth.net

Not against the rules but...

Not a good thing to do. Most spam originates from crawlers that search web sites for email addresses. Generally, it's probably wiser not to post your address on a web site, but you are certainly welcome to do it here. ph.

post your email as....

To post a email address without getting spammed, just type picklefreek@NOSPAMyahoo.com. Because of the NOSPAM, the progams out there looking for emails get a wrong address, but you can tell what my real address is. Any way, I purchased a 1972 O22 this winter off EBay just because of the price, and will be nice to have a lighter boat (1000 pounds lighter then my 1973 O23), to keep in the driveway and use it when we want to head out to different lakes. Going to pull her out of the field this weekend and start cleaning her up. As far as your trailer, with the O22 being just over 2000 pounds, a dual axle trailer that you have is more then enough. With the 13 inch fixed keel, they normally do ride pretty high. The trailer that came with my 22 is only single axle and I pulled her from New Jersey to New Hampshire no problem at all. Good luck with her

re:post e-mail

Thanks Chris, Since I am not totally familar with internet and e-mail, when and where and how do I do this NOSPAM thing? Good luck with your 022. When you back your 023 into the water, does your hitch go under water? Mine did. I then removed the center rollers so the keel sits on 2 cross members, I still had to place some temporary blocks between bunks and hull bottom, strapped the boat to the trailer and slowly towed it to the ramp parking area, bought a 2 x 8, cut it in 2 and replaced the 2 x 2 bunks. It towed securely after that. Thank you Chris David S

...like this

David, normally people add the NOSPAM at right after the @ symbol so it misses up the name (my email is chris@NOSPAMfernstravel.com). I just purchased a Venture VTB4700 for the O23 and I have never had to but the hitch in the water, but close for sure. I don't have "keel" rollers, and do pretty much the same you do. Once she is out of the water, I keep some some scrap wood in the back of the truck and put it between the keel and cross beams. If trailering and it bounces, you my lose the wood, so I always have extra to replace it with. Didn't get the O22 out to the field this weekend, it was to wet. Hopefully this weekend coming up.

Re:like this

Hi Chris, thanks for the reply, my cyber knowledge is slowly growing. I had to laugh at your example e-mail "picklefreek---" just watch out for the pickles awash in vinegar, its not good for the body! I hope someone will reply to my question about hitch wgt., keeping in mind my tilt trailer has more trailer weight up front because of the extra metal involved with the tilt feature. I suppose that would have something to do with where the boat sets in relation to the trailers 2 axles. Yeh the trailer is an over kill, rated at 5000 lbs, but thats all I had available. David S
