Salt water sailing to fresh water

I will be moving from Gulf sailing in Florida to lake sailing North Carolina. If anyone has any information on sailing in Kerr Lake I would like to know if the lake is worth transporting my 1982 H30 and splash her there. Also, what can I expect on taking care of the bottom in fresh water? Currently I have to repaint the bottom every 18 months and have a person clean the bottom every 4 to 5 weeks. What do I need to have done in fresh water? I really do not want to sell my H30 but I would like to ensure I can still enjoy sailing her in an appropriate sailing lake before going through the expense of transporting her there. She is a beauty and in great shape so parting with her would be hard. Your comments are appreciated. Thanks.

Fresh Water is Bliss

You can expect to bottom paint every 4 to 5 years in really clean fresh water. Less than that if the water is not clean . . . unless you are using a racing bottom paint, in which case it would be annually. However another big difference is that your chrome should last considerably longer if you are truly away from the salt air. I've got a 6 year old 340 that looks quite new. Even the gel is in great shape. jr

Kerr Lake or Buggs Island

I sail on Kerr Lake most of the summer 10 to 12 days at a time, a great lake but I get bored, after 3-4 days you've seen it all. That's why I have a H 260, we have sailed to Bahamas from Miami and Lake Erie from Buffalo. Back to your question......I've never put a hull treatment on my boat but it spends most of its time on the trailer...so I'm no help their I just pressure it off once I get back to home base (middle of NC) Only time we had problems on Kerr Lake was the start of last summer and 2 summers ago when the lake was 10-15 ft low but now its full pond or better. Reading this over...I haven't helped much Baums Rush
