I am looking to replace our dining table in our new beneteau 43. The laminated table top has become scratched quite easily and we would like to replace it with a marine grade finish wood table top. Any suggestions for resources that won't sink our boat?

Polyurethane Finish?

Some polyurethane finishes are quite hard and scratch resistant. Did you try a major refinish? If so, see the wood advertised on this site for the cockpit table. Looks like a good compromise as material for a custom table if what you have is teak.

Varathane

Is supposedly one of the hardest oil based polys out there. It has worked well for me. I would go to Atlantic hardwoods and have them join some 3/4" teak to the rough size that you need. get it home and cut it to your size and apply the finish. I saw a big Bene sailing around Portland harbor this weekend. Was that you?

BAR-TOP varnish !!!!

Very HARD varnish and not flexible/ding-able like a flexible 'spar' varnish. You usually have to find an ancient paint store with the proprietor older than god ... and he will/make it for you. This is not an 'easy varnish' to work as it takes several coats and the last few have to be flat sanded with 1000 grit---> 2000 (or finer if you can find it) grit paper and/or the last coat has to be 'hand rubbed' with mixture of 'rottenstone' and water (the heat from hand rubbing will develop the glowing irridescent 'patina' of the wood .... OR/then high-speed buffed with a knobby foam pad and 3M "Perfection" buffing compound. Such a surface is 'bombproof' and totally resists 'watermarks', etc. If you want a satin surface, use oil (instead of water) & "rottenstone' with a little bit of pumice added. Do websearch for "BARTOP varnish".
