On my late model ’86 H31 (87 spec) the saloon table is fixed. I’d like to use the U shape settees with the table dropped down for a sleeping berth. Has anyone done this conversion? Any ideas, pictures or info on modifying the table base would be great.

Thanks, Mike

I have a saloon table I got from a Texas Marine 32 feet sailboat: comes with stainless steel brackets to attach to bulkhead
At present for sale on Craigs list
In perfect shape, needs a good coat of varnish
Let me know if interested

Did you ever accomplish this table to bed conversion? I'd like to do the same in my Hunter 28.5

I have a 1984 H31, with the drop down table, which makes a great sleeping berth. I can send you some pics/measurements if you like

Thanks for the response so far,

My Hunter 31 is a late '86 with the horseshoe settee and dinette table (picture attached) I want to modify this stationary table so it drops down, crating a nice sleeping birth. Has anyone has already done so…. or have other ideas and suggestions!

IanJ, pictures would be great...

Thank you, Mike

The early model H'31 had a different setup. The table attached to the starboard side cabinets with a removeable post.

The problem I see with the later models is the ability to open the table. You could possibly get a table support like used in travel trailers that would allow the support to be compressed, but you would still need a support when the table is extended.

Maybe something like this?

Hi Mike. I have wondered how to do this myself, but talked myself out of it. We bought the boat because of the half moon type seatee. First off, you will have to put in another support for the table. Otherwise, you will have to unbolt the table support from the floor, then from under the table. Find a place to put the support post, then place table on a ledge of the seatee to make a bed for a very small person. This is why I never did the conversion. Steve is right, you can get a collapsiable table support from an RV dealer, then figure how to make it sturdy to the floor. Not much support there I don't think. :D
Good luck if you try it.

My setup is with two benches, either side of the oblong table, fore and aft. The table goes strainght down, and the cushions sit on top. Yours being a horseshoe, will need a lot of adjustments. I will get you some pics this weekend, but I dont think they will do you any good, unless you want to revamp the horseshoe and get whole new cushions etc.
