While checking an adjustment that my yard had done on the saloon table in our 2009 Hunter 36, the table veneer cracked badly against the mast support that runs through it.
Has anyone else had an issue with separating veneer?
It looks to me as through I am going to need to replace the table surface, but without a change in the way it is applied, it seems to be asking for a recurrence.
Anyone have a suggestion?

Yes

I did have the veener come up some of the edges of table and so just reglued it with contact glue and than used flat surface wood and left it clamped for a few hours, has been good ever since.
My 2007 H-36.

Isn't this a warranty issue? I would check with your brokerage and/or Hunter before you attempt any repair yourself.

Contact Dealer

I would call the dealer for sure for warranty, and if they do the right thing than call Hunter I have always found the factory very helpful.

Check with your dealer!

Correct! As a Hunter dealer in Western Michigan, this should be covered under your warranty. I have seen this problem before but it is not specific to the compression posts. Usually some contact glue and pressure will lay it back down

What kind of adjustment did your yard people perform on the table? They could be responsible for the resulting damage. If so they should at least fix it for you, if not it is a warranty issue so contact your dealer.

Is it possible that sliding the table up and down caused the damage. I would like to be able to remove the table all together from time to time if anyone has any ideas.

That's exactly how it happened.
I am waiting for the dealer to reply on this one, but the Admiral and I have determined that if it is NOT a warranty repair, we will get the table redone by a carpenter who will understand the issue of the table binding against the compression post. At that point, I will suggest replacing the plastic connecting strap underneath the table with a couple of coffin locks, which, when released, would take the inboard piece off of the table, and allow one to shift it without having it bind on the post.

Update: Hunter has asked to have the table shipped to them, so they can examine it and determine whether to refinish or replace it.
So that will be 6 weeks without a salon table.....

...and that was optimistic. They opted for refinishing. It took 3 months to get it back. The good news is that they had figured out that the marine board underneath needed to be re-positioned. But the design itself needs modification, in order to make it easy to shift. I am in the process of doing that (it's an easy job, but I'm not full time on the boat), and will publish pics when done.

I have finished modifying the table. All I have done is create a way for the insert opposite the table to be easily removed, prior to lowering it to form a double bunk, which (on my 2009 Hunter 36) is on the starboard side. Photos and captions follow.
