In our 36' Catalina (1988) the Salon Table has a Knob that allows the table to swing a full 360 degrees but we have not been able to figure out how to drop the table to form a platform for a berth area....We have tried many times to drop it, raise it etc. any suggestions?

Table

On my '91 I have found that it is rather hard to push down but that is because of the spring that pushes it back up. You might try to loosen the knob, have two people push down on the CENTER of the table over the pole. Make sure you push over the pole otherwise you might pull the screws out on one side. The pressure down has to be straight down. It might just be stuck. If that does not work, you might try to remove the pole from the table and base, spray some WD-40 or silicone on the joint and let it soak in for several days and try it again. Hope this helps.

Gas Spring Inside

There is a gas spring inside the pedestal (similar to one on the hatchback on a car) which can be quite sticky. It takes quite a bit of effort to drop the spring. If you are concerned that you are putting too much pressure on the table, you can take the table off the pedestal, then take the pedestal off the cabin sole and by loosening the knob and removing the bolts on the top and bottom of the pedestal, you can remove the gas spring and "un-stick" it. BTW, we leave our table rotated 180 degrees - it gives us much more space in the cabin.
