I have a 2001 Hunter 380 and would like to have a smaller salon table. The factory table is too large making it uncomfortable to slide aaround the table or even sit at it. Cutting it down by 2-3 inches seemed to be a good idea but I was getting estiimates of $1200-1800 and the shipwrights were more incined to just build a new one. Noone felt that cutting it down was going to be very difficult and would ruin the finish beyond repair.

My plan was to just cut 2-3 inches off around the part of the table without the folding leaf then either glue/screw trim pieces around the edge.

Any ideas or experiences???

Our salon table was too large also. We tried cutting our old one down, it didn't work out, it was full of tiny metal staples that made it impossible to get a clean cut for joining new wood trim.

We jst made a new beautiful table out of solid teak. The cost of the material was only about $ 150. My Dad has a wood shop, so labor and tools were free.

I have a custom table the PO installed. I looked at one that had been cut down and it looked makeshift.

Thanks, I have pretty much come that conclusion. The quotes I got from the pros were for a new table and were outragious. When I get somewhere were I can get ashore to a decnet work location I'll do what you have done. I drew a template for a table and it doesn't appear that building a new table is out of my skill range. My questions now are related to sizing the new table for ease of access.

Do you have pictures of yours? What is the measurement from the back of the settee cushions to the table edge?

I think alot of the 380-386 owners would be interested in drawings or photos of your solution as we all suffer from the lack of room at the table. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I removed my OEM salon table a few years ago and added a custom-built table of my design and effort. Go to the modifications section of this website under 386 models and see a couple of pictures I posted. We've very happy with the results.
