I'm looking to purchase a new set of sails for an ODay daysailor 17. I believe it is a 1978. The hull # is xdyd8970m78h. I'm not sure want model boat it is. I'm checking the IJPE measurements. Are this given when purchasing sails or do you have to physically measure your boat for these?

http://boonedocks.net/daysailer/#parts and order your sails from the original supplier. No need for measuring. The DS 1 2 and 3 all have the same sail plan, only the hull, deck, and cuddy configurations vary.

This is a 1978 O'Day Day Sailer II, built in March of 1978. The Hull I.D. Number given would breakdown as follows; XDY = the Manufacturers I.D. Code for O'Day D = Day Sailer 8970 = Class# or Sail#, this was the 8970th Day Sailer built M78 = 1978 Model Year H = March The Model Years ran August to July, for 1978 that was Aug 1977 to July 1978. Interesting that my 1979 DS II was built in December of 1978 and is #10201. A good sailmaker will have all dimensions on file for a Class boat (one-design) such as a DS. If you don't plan to race, D&R Marine has about the best price around for Day Sailer sails. They are made by Neil Pryde and are the same as the OEM sails that came with the boat in 1978.
