Beneteau Oceanis 45 Pensacola, FL
Has anyone replaced their sails on a 45' Oceanis? We have a self tacking system and a plate for a second head sail and Beneteau cant seam to find out what the original sail plan was. Any suggestions would be greatly aporeciated!!!

I have sailplans...assume this is the new 45 that came out in 2010-2011 and I also have all the details for the original sails...but also have questions:
1. If it's the newer 45, they had two flavors: standard rig and ICW rig. Do you know which you have?
2. When you say you have plate for second headsail does this mean that the boat was set up with an inner removable forestay? Deck mounted to the anchor bulkhead about 3' aft of the forestay?? And then sheeting to an athwartship track? This would be neat, but very uncommon on the 45.
3. The original jibs were 108%...so not really 'self tacking'

Bob, to explain in more detail; I have a 2011-2012, hull #2, made in France, from what I understand #1 & #2 were the only ones made in France, #1 stayed in France, #2 came to the US to the Miami boat show. I know for a fact that hull #5 does not have the same rigging as mine, so we are under the impression once they started making them in the US they changed the sail plan. I will answer your questions below.
#1) Mast is 72' off the water (we have not seen or heard of any other 45' with a 72'H mast besides hull #1
#2) Yes to all of your points
#3) The boat has a 90% jib sheeted to a self tacking track forward of the mast.
I would appreciate any information/help that you can give. We are doing the Pensacola-Isla race in May and would like to have the sails done by then.
Thanks, Angela

I just bought new sail from Jonathan at North Sails in Annapolis. To the best of my knowledge they did not use any published information, but rather Jonathan made extensive measurements.

Ditto Ron, your boat likely garners the custom measurement route. Sounds like a nice boat, G/L

For a special sail like this...whoever you order the sail from... local or online.. is gonna want measurements from the actual boat. Either they come and do it (my choice) or they send you instructions on how do it for them....

Hi Angela,
Hmm...it's complicated. The original sails we built for the production boats were in the fall of 2011.
Beneteau started with the 'standard' rig which has a mast tube length of 18.4...couple this with the height of the mast base from the waterline and you get about 20.3 for the mast height from the water not including any electronics. This only 66.5 feet or so and not your 72'.
What's odd is that I also have all the details on the French build...and the mast for the 45 designed in 2010...was also the 18.4mt. So if I was a betting guy, I'd say you have the standard rig.
BUT, we must always allow for changes in documentation and details in the time before production starts and things get set in stone...so it is possible that you have a bit different rig on the boat.
All easy enough to check with a 100' tape measure by measuring a few things on the rig to confirm.
And we also have agents in Panama City or New Orleans...pm me if you'd like contact details and they could work with you.
