After a much needed (Isia,..what?) and peaceful night off the Torry Islands at the eastern end of the eggemoggin reach, we sailed off our anchor and headed east on a light SW breeze.

At the mouth of blue hill bay, the SWer had turned a bit more W.

That’s an invitation to a 10+ mile reach - in flat water - that I have trouble refusing.

It was all I expected and then some.

Alas, nobody sails into BH, especially the last mile that twists through ledges.

But it was a sail enough, to last.

You bring back memories. We lived just up the Blue Hill Bay on Patten Bay for a time. Blue Hill Bay just offered those flat water 4-5kt sails doen to Buckle Harbor, our favorite.

We put in at Blue Hill just in time for the town Steel Drum Concert in the park. (Annual?) What a hoot! LONG walk to the yacht club though. We had a lovely reach out heading to Frenchboro a few days later.

On a hot day in light air last week, we were sailing through the Merchant Islands in eastern Penobscot bay.

With just the Genoa and mizzen raised, our speed was easy on piloting between the rocks and unmarked granite ledges.

Sailing takes the stress out of lobster gear.

Buoys are gently pushed aside, a few scrape the bottom and pop out in our quiet wake.

I lost count of the Island passes we threaded our way through.

Sometimes, speed is the enemy.

After decades of sailing on the coast of Maine, I’m still amazed that we can easily find a new to us anchorage off a remote island(with no name),for the night less than 20 miles from home.

Back to Blue Hill Bay, we did spend a few days at anchor all the way up the meandering channel.

We watched this beautiful sloop actually sail out of twisting granite ledge lined channel and out into Blue Hill Bay. Top of the tide in this shot.

This snug anchorage is ruled by the tide. It's two different worlds as 10 to 12' of water flow in and out, twice a day.

Going down,...

Too cold up there for a resting ground, but nice to explore when it's warm.

Tell me that's not a cemetery in Tom's last photo! Sails to die for? ;) That may not be a laughing matter for this group. :yikes: (no disrespect for those whom have departed - we all face it someday)

Yeah, The Admiral and I are both going to be cremated. I get to spread her ashes on our two acres of paradise here in central Texas. She gets to pour mine into the sea.

"Cremation - My last chance to have a smoking hot body!" Stolen from somewhere.
