Has anyone ordered and sewn their own sails from this thirty four year old company. My question is to 25'to 30' boat owners. I have the machine and the seamstress. The kits seem reasonably priced. My sailing would be coastal cruising.

Yes

I have built a storm jib, storm trysail, asymetrical spinaker all for my O'Day 35. I have also built a 4 sided sail for my sailing dinghy which was a custom made design. Their kits are fantastic in terms of materials, quality, and the best instructions you can imagine. If in trouble call and they help you over the phone, when was the last time you called for help and got a real person instead of a computer? Great company... Dave p.s. I am not related to them and have no financial interest in the company, nor any business dealings other than a customer.

we did

My wife and I made a mainsail from a sailrite kit. The sail worked fine. I took a soldering iron and spread the sailcloth out in our large basement. My wife sewed the sail together with a normal sewing machine and I hand stiched the leather parts. We used the sail for about a year until we sold the boat. The material arrived with the pattern imprinted. I just followed the lines with the soldering iron. It didn't take too long,we actually enjoyed doing it during the winter. As a disclaimer when we needed another larger sail we bought it from a company in Biluxi,MS. Their price for a completed sail was about the same as a kit. It seems like the company was "Mainland Sails" but I'm not sure. Tom
