I have been asked on short notice to say grace at our Annual Commodore's Ball & Awards Night... TOMORROW NIGHT! I have listened to many at these functions over the years but have never heard one specifically for sailors/nautical. Does anyone have any favourites?
Thanks,
Bob

i think you could do a google search under "sailor's prayer" and come up with something.

I believe the words to the naval hymm are something of a prayer too:

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea! Amen.

If you feel like giving them their moneys worth ...

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the good fortune you bless upon this nation and your people assembled her. Grant us good fortune in this coming year and shower your thanks upon those who served the PRYCA this past year and guide those who will lead us in the coming year.
We pray to you for those on the perilous ocean that you will embrace them with your mighty protection and grant them success in all their rightful undertakings. Grant them in all hours of need to see that they have a God who remembers them, and grant them grace in the hour of danger to commit their souls into your hands. 0 Lord Jesus Christ, who can rebuke the storm and bring it to silence, and lay the roaring waves to rest, show them who call to you out of the deep that you hear their prayer and will save them. And finally bring us all to the only safe port.
Frail is our vessel, and the ocean is wide; but as in your mercy you have set our course. Steer the vessel of our life towards the everlasting shore of peace, and bring us at length to the quiet haven of our heart's desire, where you, 0 God, are blessed, and live and reign for ever and ever.
We ask that you bless that hands that prepare and serve this food and bless those who consume it. As we partake of this food let us remember The One who sacrificed for us so we would have eternal life. As we drink let us remember his blood which was shed for us, and as we eat let us remember his body which was broken for us. In your name we pray. Amen.

Permit me to say that probably was the most moving nautical prayer I have ever read. If you are the author may I use it?

Respectfully,

Weasel

You are more than welcome to use it, although it is not completely original. I adapted it from a couple of mariner prayers out there and added a few of my touches. I don't recall the sources. Ray
