Anybody have a particular favorite place when they are buying sails? As usual I am looking for the best deal I can get for a quality sail. Used is OK as long as it is considerably cheaper and in good shape. I have a 1981 Hunter 36 that I am completely, and I mean COMPLETELY, overhauling and it is time to trash the 20 year old sails. As always, thanks in advance. Toby

A bit off-topic

But speaking of buying used sails and refitting boats, would anyone be interested in an auction feature that would encompass all of our sailing sites? Sellers would post gear with a minimum required bid, buyers would post bids on the site, at the end of the auction HOW would hold the funds in something like an escrow until the gear was received by the buyer. Good? Bad? Who cares??

Hood - Sausalito

If you're racing and you have money to burn, go for North Sails. Of course. On the other hand, I've had very good service and high quality sails from Hood. They make their own cloth, and are VERY knowledgeable regarding sail specifications that neither you nor I would normally consider. I used one of the sailing "source books" to identify overt a dozen lofts and sent them my request for a quotation on a 155 genoa - about half answered. And while I could probably have gotten a fine sail from all of them (Quantum, Neil-Pryde, Sobstad, UK, etc), Robin at Hood's loft in Sausalito seemed much more knowledgeable. The price was not the cheapest (or most expensive), but it was within my pre-established budget - they offer a significant discount in November! Good luck with your "shopping"! Michael O'
