I'm bringing my sailboat down to the Chesapeake in Sept and would like to launch it near Oxford. Can anyone tell me where I can launch and park my trailer for a week or two? Also, we would like to sail from Oxford to St. Michaels and stay in St. Micheals for a night or two. Maybe some hints on where to stay? B&B? Thanks! Jerry and Kathy

If you go by water from Oxfor to St M, I believe it is about 30 miles- the long way around the barn. You can anchor out or get a slip in the harbor. Or, if you have a dingy, from the Choptank, go up Broad Creek then San Domingo to almost the very end. There is a dingy dock, about 2 block's walk to the main St M street. The "Maryland Cruising Guide has ICONS at the launch ramps. It looks like one launch ramp in the back of the either OX/St M harbors, but parking...???

You will really enjoy St. Michaels. It is a nice town and it is very pretty. Plan on a trip the the museum there.

I would suggest going into San Domingo Creek as well. I have done this before.

The nice thing is that with your boat you should be able to get back into the creek further so you don't have quite as long of a dingy ride. I had an outboard for my dingy last time I was there but now that I have downsized to a 23 I don't carry an outboard. I tow my dingy and row it.

There is a good dingy dock like Ron said. You can also tie up to the sea wall there. Either way, it isn't a bad walk at all to the town. There are some good restaurants there as well.

I would suggest being down there mid to late September so the weather is a bit cooler. Last September I had the most amazing sailing in my life and logged 90% of my miles under sail, versus motoring. In the summer you need a good motor in the Chesapeake a lot of the time. You may want some extra gas cans if you are staying in that area.

Also check out Cainbridge, MD. That is supposed to be a cool place, although I haven't been there. Oxford is really nice.

If for some reason you decide to go South, check out Solomons Island. It is one of my favorite places on the bay. It is about 30 nautical miles from Oxford (slightly more than 30 but less than 40).

There is a boat ramp right next to Schooners Landing Restaurant (off Tilghman Street) and the adjacent boat yard (Brewer Yacht Yard?) has plenty of parking and transient slips. The folks at Campbell's Boat yard are also great, and they have transient slips.

Had a memorable dinner at the Crab Claw. Have not had any better crabs anywhere. When it came time to pay the bill found out they would not take credit cards but graciously indicated they would accept personal checks.

If you wander down towards Tangier Island, the restaurant right by Parker's Marina has the best crabcake I have ever had. It doesn't hurt that it was as fresh as they can be! Nothing like from the crab pot to the plate!
