We're sailing from Mystic up the Connecticut River for the first time, to enjoy the spectacular foliage this fall. Does anyone have suggestions or comments? Are their places to anchor overnight or do you have to dock?

Nice Trip

About 5 miles up there's Brewer's Dauntless marina, Essex Island Marina and a third one (I can't remember the name). About two miles beyond that one, is Brewer's Deep River Marina. For anchoring, a mile beyond Essex is Hamburg Cove to starboard. Don't let it intimidate you. There's plenty of water in the narrow entrance. You can dinghy to Essex from there. Essex is a great walking town. Be sue to stop at the Griswold Inn for something to eat.

Dock and Dine

We tied up at Dock and Dine (not far up the river) several years ago and had dinner there. I asked and they let us stay the night - for free. David H27 Renegade

Saybrook

Stay at Harbor One -- cheapest place $1.75/ft. Catch the tram into historic Old Saybrook.

Hamburg Cove

We have been making the same trip for 20 years. Our Home Port is Noank CT, put we winter in Portland CT which is about 20 miles up-river. We just did it last weekend. We love stopping at Hamburg Cove for night. No night life but very pretty. Have a nice trip. Rich Lemieux Amitie, C-36 1621
