They have Driving simulators. They have Flight simulators. They have Combat simulators. Has anyone seen a Sailing simulator where one actually has to set the sails according to the wind conditions?

Sailing simulator

I had an older version. Not a bad winter passtime with most of the basic sailing / racing skills correctly done.

sailing simulators

try googling "sailing simulators". There are quite a few. The one I have is called "interactive sailing". It is OLD... graphically.. concentrating on racing. The game includes a number of videos demonstrating various manuervers and tactics. The version I have was purchased 6-7 years ago off the shelf. I'm sure there are better ones out there now. http://www.sailsimulator.com/ http://www.poseysail.com/ http://www.hangsim.com/vs/ http://www.apsltd.com/Tree/d3000/e2185.asp

Virtual Skipper

Not truly a sailing simulator, more of a regatta simulator. Do a search on Virtual Skipper. There is a demo you can download of it and it seems pretty decent.

virtual skipper 3D

Yep I have both ones mentionned by Kaisen and Joe, they are interesting in diferent way at the time I prefered Sail2000, I still have a copy! But if you are to purchase one today there is no other one to choose then Virtual skipper 3D, it is amazing graphically and for realism. You can also compete with other skippers live around the world over the internet. First you will be amazed by the graphics; from reflection of the hull in the water etc, then you'll realise that, ripples on the water are sometime actually windshift coming etc. The clouds depicted will also bring more wind, etc. it is that good. Get ready to upgrade your PC if yours is a bit old this program is heavy to run and you will want a decent grafic card & sound card. There is a real virtual community racing with this program, and at some level the races are very serious with protest and rules review etc. That side is also very interesting. I personnally usually race against the computer while on the train etc. Cheers, a.

Might be worth adding to the thread for newbees... May help a little with understanding sail trim/points of sail.

Some of those are interesting...

But I could only get the demos to run a few minutes. Not enough time to figure out what the heck I was doing. The one from NGS is cool. It is a good tool for understand sail angle to wind direction. Thanks for all the links.
