Hello and Happy New Year to all! I will be visiting Huntington Beach 1/16-1/20 and would love to get out on the water. If there is anyone who might be able to have me and one non-sailing friend on board as crew I would enjoy reciprocating in Lake Tahoe. I'm an experienced sailor, able bodied, alway show up on time with munchies and drinks, always stay to help button up and clean, fun with a good sense of humor and I look great in a speedo (just kidding). My best day to sail will be Saturday. If this can't happen, are there any commercial day charter boats in the area that would appeal to a sailor? Thanks in advance, Tim Lake Tahoe H30G SeaDog

Tim, your best bet

would be Marina Sailing in Long Beach, CA. Long Beach has the best daysailing on the West Coast, (Bay Area sailors dispute that) with good wind and protected water behind the federal breakwater. You can go outside of the breakwater thru two gates and around the east end if you want. Here's a link;http://www.marinasailing.com/

Hi Larry

... Thanks for the heads up. They seem like a great outfit and if I was a non-boat owner in the area a membership would make great sense. In order for me to charter a Cat 28 for a half day it would work out to almost $600.00. They have additional fees for non-members and after a two hour check out I would be left with about a half day. They were honest that if I chartered less than 4 times / year with them that a membership would not be a good buy. I think my realistic options are someone looking for fun crew for an afternoon or something like my buddies that run the charter boat in the link. Thanks, Tim

sailing opportunities

Tim, If you don't mind sailing on a 22' Venture with multipal sails I may be sailing on both days of Saturday and Sunday with an overnight docking at Marina Del Rey (about 25 miles from Huntington Beach.) Weather permitting I will be putting my boat into the water about 11AM on Saturday 1/19/08 from my "mast-up" storage. You are both welcome to sail Saturday and/or Sunday with me. The only cost to you will be to park your car at the ramp for $5 a 24 hour day. E-mail me at novelman@roadrunner.com and I will send my phone number so we can schedule it. We may also be able to include a second boat, a 25' MacGregor at the same location so we could all sail offshore to look for migrating whales. Duane Beaver

Sounds like the race is on, Novelman!

I'd be happy to join you. Let me check the admiral's schedule. I'm pretty sure I'm good to go so long as these storms let up. What's the matter Tim can't trailer that 30' Hunter? I'm just a little green with envy. My dream is the Hunter 260. We were on Tahoe 2 years ago took the Mac up there. Wife has agreed to go up again this summer. Hope you're feeling better, Frank

Eurosail

Give eurosail charters out of San Pedro a look. I have used them a few times with good results, just north of Long Beach. The boats are, honestly, a little worn looking but everything was in good working order. No membership and reasonable rates. I have had a couple of great days sailing on their boats when I was in LA. www.eurosailcharter.com

Duane, looks good for Sat and Sun 1/19-20

By the way stopped by King's Harbor to look at that boat. Guest slips are $20/night. I'd still like to get out and do some lobster hooping some evening there is a reef not far from the channel entrance. Tim you are also welcome aboard my humble aboat anytime. Frank
