take em all along

I forgot about LaMer by DeBussy as Peggy pointed out. That's great music to have daybreak coffee to while the Admiral sleeps in. Ed mused about how to get them on board. I added a 30 GB USB hard drive for my boat computer. Over a 6 month period, whenever I was working on the computer at home I converted about about 400 CDs into MP3 files which I copied to the HD and took to the boat. I now have all the music I could ever want at the click of the mouse for $250. The pc will run nav software, the AP interface and play music easily. I interfaced the speaker output to amplifier so the music plays through the boat's speakers. Now I've got play lists for any occassion :)

Into the Mystic - Van Morrison

I can't believe no one picked Van The Man (Morrison)...Some of his music is hauntingly beautiful ... Everytime I hear "Into the Mystic" it makes me imagine sailing on a early morning somewhere DownEast with a cup of coffee in one hand...Here are some of the lyrics.. "We were born before the wind Also younger than the sun Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic.... Hark, now hear the sailors cry Smell the sea and feel the sky Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic..... And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home...." I think the whole Moondance album is great especially the title song. Love his song "Tupelo Honey" too.. Everybody has great sugestions some obvious (Any Bob Marley or Jimmy Buffet!!)

For relaxing at anchor - Joshua Redman

Quartet album called "Moodswing". I know its not well known but once you here it you will love it. Its the kind of music you play just after dusk at a very calm anchorage. It is so smooth it'll make you enjoy having a cocktail and just staring out over the water..... I once heard it on another boat while anchored and it was awsesome. The music just wafted across the water flooding the area with soothing classy rythym. Its like a soft easy Jazz. Its not a raucous, rockin Rum and Coke album...more like an extra dry martini album. If you've never heard this album and want to relax and be cool, try it.

Napster can generate new music sales...

I must say, I've learned about some really great new music from this thread. I've used Napster to download many of the suggestions from artists I hadn't heard before and plan on purchasing some new CDs for use onboard! Thanks for the great "personal faves" everyone has shared... Trevor

Cool Change

I think Coo Change by The Little River Band has to be one of the best cruising anthems ever.

The BEST!

Our favorite "Sailing" CD is the Sailing CD produced by the Cincinnati Pops. Wonderful music for sunset, cocktail hour or during dinner. G.
