sailing lakes in Adirondacks/Lake George and Champlain

I am heading to the Adoriondacks in a couple of days. Looking at lake george and Champlain. Just wondering what folks think about these lakes, and any local knowledge that would make for a better trip. Also open to other lakes in the area. Preferably lakes with a state park boat ramp/showers and good town/mnt. hiking and, of course, sailing!

Lake Champlain is my cruising grounds. Since I am a native Vermonter, I know more about the Vt side of the lake. Not sure what you want to know, but things to remember about Lake Champlain. Once you get North of Crown Point, it's wide and deep. Weather comes up fast and it can blow. So watch the weather reports and the sky. We recently had a t-storm come through and winds were 50-60mph. You can send me an email with any questions about the lake. Have fun...

i've been diving on lake champlain a number of times, but i have not been on lake george. i would vote for lake champlain as it is much larger with less traffic or at least spread out. i love the burlington vt area of the lake. from what i hear lake george is very busy as well as being smaller lake.

Check out Rogers Rock State Campground in the north end of L. George. Good accomodations and ramp, lots of area to sail and explore by hiking too, just be aware that it's high summer season and busy. You can reserve campsites online.

Some of our favorite vacations(other than Hawaii, of course) are trips up to Lake George. We usually go the Glen Island area-also known as the 'narrows', I think- where we reserve an island to camp on and sail in. In this area the likely ramp is the narwhal marina which is about 3 miles south of the ranger station/island. Being not as spry as we used to be, we arrange for a hotel room for our arrival date(6hr drive) and again for the day we come off the water to break down for travel.
You'd definitely have to call to see any island sites are available at this timeof year.
The avatar pic was, in fact taken at a Lk George site.
