I'm thinking about renting a place with a dock on Indian lake for a week this summer.I don't know much about Indian Lake ,so some local knowledge would be great.A good place to stay, things to do things to watch out for,I'm open to any bits of wisdom. Thanks, Jerry Lowe

Nice active yacht club.

All that I know is that I am always getting mail about the regattas there. So I know that sailing is alive and well on Indian Lake. Several championships have been held there so I assume the conditions are good. I do see that they do not limit horsepower. But it is a very large lake compared to our little 1500 acre Atwood. Anyway I am not sure that our 25 horse limit really makes any difference. Instead of fast ski boats we have lots of wake from plowing pontoon boats. The yacht club looks nice: http://indianlakeyachtclub.com/ . Be sure to report back.

Thanks for your reply,Ed

Thanks again,Ed. I slip my boat at Charles Mill Lake near Mansfield. It's a 10 hp limit(except for the big house boats, they can go up to 30hp).I sail on 1300 acres, but only 1/2 of it is sailable at a time,a bridge cuts it in half.I really enjoy the 10hp limit, you have plenty of time to get out of a power boats way,you can anchor with a brick and a clothesline (just kidding, but its real protected).Weekends are a little busy, but most of the traffic stays to one side ,and they follow each other like sheep. On weekdays, it's like you own the lake, usually no more than 5 or 10 boats out on my side of the bridge.I want to rent a vacation house for a week that has a dock,so for a week I can walk out the door and hop on my boat, just like I was rich. Atwood?

Atwood Lodge( http://www.atwoodlakeresort.com/ ) has quite a few cabin rentals with docks Jerry. It is a 40 minute drive from Canton(home) so add an hour from Mansfield. Then you could come over to the AYC ( http://www.atwoodyc.com/ ) where we make our own brew, "Main Sail Ale". A great beer!! Related link includes a map of the lake. The yacht club is around the center of the south shore.
