I am over in the UK on business and I found the Poole region to be very excellent as a harbor. It has a temperate climate and most boats are in the water and still sailing. Has anyone ever sailed in this region??? I'm very impressed and will consider this as a stop on a world tour if I ever get to do one. The town has a nice shopping district, good restaurants, and a wonderful waterfront. The young lady from England that just finished the Vendee Globe was sailing into Southampton this morning to a heroes welcome, just a few miles down the road from Poole. check it out you'll like it. Jolly Ole Seapower

My work has taken me to England many times and I have sailed the Solent out of South Hampton around the Isle of Wight. These people have been sailing for thousands of years. How do you think they got out on that island in the first place? Considering their historic "class" distinctions, one of the things I like about English sailors is their appreciation for simple, smaller, more inexpensive boats. Their focus seems to be more on seamanship rather than how big your boat is. They tend to do things by the book. I believe the English sailing magazines are the best in the world. Really address the kind of issues I care about as a cruiser rather than racer. Oh well, my friends accuse my wife and I of just being anglophiles.
