Greetings from Austin! I'm planning a weekend getaway to San Diego (first time visit to west coast) in mid October. Would love to go out for a sail in the bay. Anyone in the area interested? or, should you have any suggestions as to how to connect with someone to arrange same, please let me know. Would be just for a couple of hours on a Saturday and of course will pay cash for the privilege. Email: smiller@brobeck.com

Rentals available

Last time I was in San Diego I found a place where they rent sailboats. Don't recall the name of the company, but it is located in the marina near the Seaport village. (A couple of blocks east of the "Star of India")

Coronada Is.

There are rental boats (20' - 25') at the marina across from the Coronada Hotel on Coronada Island. Had a nice afternoon sail there last year for not too many dollars.

San Diego

Geeze Sherry, my wife and I went out on a 35.5 Hunter on San Diego Bay and out into the Pacific 3-4 miles under the pretense of "whale-watching" a few months ago for $150 or so total as I recall. The skipper was by himself and the other couple did not sail, so I got to sail the boat while the skipper handled all the other duties. I have a 28.5 Hunter on Travis and told them when we booked the trip that I wanted to sail the boat and they said "no-problem"...I must have had the wheel at least 3-4 hours in 15-18-22 knt. winds and had a ball. Anyway, I don't have the name handy, but I'm going back out there Sept.7-10 and will find their info. for you and forward it to you if you want. E-mail me at..mhoney1@compuserve.com..and I'll send you guys the information.

Sherry, You might try Harbor Sailboats (you can find them on the web). They're right on Harbor Island across from the airport and a half day rental is pretty affordable. They have a whole fleet of Capri 22's as well as bigger boats. The 22's are great for day sails on the bay. Make sure you reserve the boat ahead of time. They're pretty busy most weekends. I'm tempted to offer to take you out myself but it's too early for me to know if I'll be available that weekend. If you go with Harbor stop by for a beer. I'm on the same dock slip #507. I'm headed out next week

I am going to San Diego next week for 8 days. We are chartering a Catalina 34 for the whole time from San Diego Yatch Charters (www.sdyc.com). This includes two days of instruction (not included with the charter price). This may be more than what you are looking for, but they have been great up to this point in helping us.
