Poseidon Charters

My wife, son and daughter-in-law did a 10-day flotilla charter with Poseidon Charters this past July. We had a fabulous adventure. We spent 3 days in Athens sightseeing then met the Poseidon captain and flotilla director (Panos and John) at the Alimos Marina. We chartered a Beneteau 393 from Vernicos Yachts through Poseidon. Poseidon has their own lead boat Margarita, a 65 ft cutter. There was only one other bareboat that made up our flotilla. The Margarita had 4 couples that were booked as cabin charters. The other bareboat was a 43 ft Beneteau with 3 american couples. From Athens we sailed to Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Milos, Ios (ferry to Santorini), and Paros where we left the boat and took a ferry back to Athens. John made most of our dinner arrangements on each of the islands (local restaurants away from the crowded tourist areas) and Panos our Greek lead boat captain gave us a briefing each night on the next day's sail. His advice on coarse, waypoints and weather was invaluable. The whole experience (fabulous food, spectacular sights, friendly people, some challenging sailing) were well worth the cost. I also highly recommend some land time that Poseidon arranges on Santorini on nights 7 & 8. We stayed in cliff-side villas overlooking the caldra harbor. The air conditioning and showers were greatly appreciated by my wife and daughter-in-law. Poseidon does a great job putting the charter together and hosting the flotilla. We met Steve Parry, the Poseidon Charter Owner, at the Annapolis boat show 2 years ago, booked the charter last year at the boat show, and shared our memories with he and John (our fotilla director) at the boat show yesterday. We have over 1000 digital photos (including a video clip of dolphins racing and jumping infront of our bow) from our cruise and almost as many stories. I would be glad to share a few with you or answer any questions if you send me your e-mail address. Bob Rectanus rockyglen@aol.com

We sailed the Cyclades

If you bareboat (we did), arrange to pick up your boat in Lavrion rather than Athens. It will save a days boring sailing. Then, arrange to drop it off in Paros, and fly back from Paros. Make these arrangements when you book and there should be no extra cost. We loved it.
