Catalina 22 Lake Norman, NC
I'm thinking of taking my 85 Cat. 22 with me on vacation 2019 to Destin.
Has anyone ever sailed around in that area to within 5 miles out in a Catalina 22.
I'm open for suggestions. And also which time of the year is best.
Thanks, Greg

Choctawhatchee bay would be good. Nice Marina at Sand Destin Resort with lots of restaurants & nightlife.
You can also sail westward to Fort Walton, Navarre Beach, and onto Pensacola in Santa Rosa Sound. Also on a good day you can venture into the Gulf of Mexico thru Destin Pass; however, the pass can get very rough with breakers in higher winds and opposing tides. There are also points of interest on the North side of Choctawhatchee bay.

There is a large Cat 22 group that does a rally/sail from Destin to Pensacola and back every year, maybe 30 boats, cool people, good times, look them up, every year....

I just noticed you are from Lake Norman. My 27 Hunter is at the Lake Norman Yacht Club.

You forgot to mention the crazies: the huge fishing charters, dolphin tour boats, jet skis, and rental boats all causing havoc in the pass. :yikes:
