I need to know about sailing Dallas. I know there are a few good lakes around, but how are they for sailing, particularly a C30? Would appreciate any comments. If you don't want to reply on list, feel free to contact me off-list at belbein@da.fulton.ga.us

Lots of Lakes

There are quite a few lakes around Dallas. The largest being Lake Texoma, about an hour away. You can sail in an area about 22 X 6 miles and has lots of shoreline and nice little coves to anchor in. It is not real crowded either which makes for nice overnight anchoring. i will email you directly with additional information.

Crusin or Racin?

Texoma is great, just as Jeff described it. However, it may be more like 2 hours away depending on your location in the Dallas area. As the name implies, it is on the Texas/Oklahoma border north of Dallas. It is definately a weekend lake. You probably won't be using your boat much during the week. Much closer in, Lake Ray Hubbard on the east has several very active racing fleets with midweek regattas in the summer. Lake Grapevine also has active racing clubs. Lake Lewisville is larger and has the excellent Dallas Corinthian Yatch club. However, many consider this lake over crowded and mostly for crazy power boaters.

Check out the Cedar Mills Yatch club web site, cmyc.org, for more info and links to other area clubs.
