Centerboard -- Capsize
Jack, It's funny. . I was asking the same question a few years ago. I have a mariner (19' centerboard). Will these Centerboard boats capsize? Yes. You have to pay attention. This being said, it has been my experience that you can get pretty close to washing the lee rail without capsize. It has also been my experince that our mariner performs much better in any sort of wind with 3 or more bodies on board. I don't know if this helps but so far (knock on fiberglass) we have not been bailing out a swamped boat. In any event. . do your self a favor and make sure that it is possible to lock down your centerboard -- usually the odays have a pin to keep the board from going all the way up into the housing in the event of capsize. That way if you do capsize you will be able to more quickly get your boat flipped around again. Just my thoughts. -h. hey
