Sailing at Anchor

Guys: I know there is past discussion of my problem, but I do not appear to be able to locate it in the archives. I am tired of my 336 sailing at anchor and would like some advice if I can get it. I know it is my bulb keel that is causing the problem, but knowing why does not solve the problem. I have tried unfurling my headsail a bit, but that seems to do nothing. I have tried turning my rudder to every imaginable position and that does nothing. It seems to me I read that a small sail at the far end of the boom is the item I need. I think I have seen them for sale, but I was not yet at a point of exasperation at the time I saw the ads. Further, it seems that it would be easy enough to construct such a sail. It seems I could cut and reinforce a triangle, put eyes in the corners, and tie it off at the end of the boom, along the boom, and pull it taunt with the main halyard. Has anyone tried this? Am I overlooking something? Would it work? Three simple questions. Can you help me out? Thanks, Rodney S/V Avanti

Sailrite kit?

Sailrite makes "Anchor Riding Sail Kits", see Related Link. I have not personally used one but have read good things about them.

Anchor Sail

We had the same problem with our 28.5. I bought a Anchor Sail from my Sail Maker was not all the expensive $50-$60.00 I think. It needs to go on the back stay or the topping lift it acts like a wind vane keeping the bow of the boat pointed into the wind. We used it last weekend and it worked great. I can get you one if you need from UK Sailmakers cliffr@sbcglobal.net Cliff
