In answer to Robin sailing his Newport 20 to Hawaii. Robin you should go to sailnet.com follow the links to "Chalupa" The real life story of the fellow who sailed his Cal 20 from San Fransisco to Kauaii in 19 days, solo. He had no motor aboard. He sailed thru 6 days and nights of gale force winds. And has since logged thousands of miles sailing and living aboard in Hawaii. He also has a page there explaining the changes he made to the boat. Stringers etc. The provisions he carried and how he carried them making the most out of space and wieght. Good luck

helpful

I wish I'd found sailboatowners.com earlier, like 2 years ago. I've had a lot of helpful and interesting replies (not all of them nice, but all thoughtful and appreciated). Thanks. Robin I checked out Chalupa, though I couldn't find her on Sailnet. I did a Google Search and came upon the article.. I'm reading it now.

Potter 19 to Hawaii

This may not be the one you're talking about, but here's a link about the trip from San Francisco to Hawaii in a West Wight Potter 19. Regards, Marc_B

!!!Robin!!!

Way to go Robin! I think many of us would like to embark on some type of semi-risky journey into unknown adventure. I hope one day to do something along the line of your pursuit. (jus gotta find a way to play around this thing called a job..., not to mention a little more experience and a more suitable boat, I have a MacGregor 26s). Till then I'll be sitting here in my office, happy to have a paycheck, but dreaming about unseen shores. Getting together with some friends tonight...we'll be toasting to your spirit of adventure and a successful journey! "20 years from now you will be more dissapointed by the things you didn't do then by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from SAFE HARBOUR. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore...dream...discover." Mark Twain
