Sailboats do not make good boats for bass fishing

Went out last Wed & Thurs to test out some new installations on the boat. About a mile from the house we throw off the bearing buddy and grease flying all around. So we stop at BassPro and pick up a new one. Get to the lake and launch goes as expected with the new mast raising system. And since we were primarily fishing (casting) no way were my sails going up. They stayed in the cabin. No hooks getting into them.

It seems that every line, rope, sheet, and halyard is coated with an attractant that snags anything with a barb. So we resort to trolling. What we wanted to test was the new rudder system built from scratch. Everything worked beyond expectations except I forgot how I was supposed to route the downhaul. I had to push it down to get it started. Rerouted and now goes down as intended. But this is a bigger than normal rudder and it hangs down farther - So back to bass fishing and trolling.

The two part, swing up rudder "does not" work when you are backing up to retrieve a snagged lure. And with our lake level at 47% every rock just below the surface is not marked (more on that in my next post).

The first and second shots are launching; third and fourth the new rudder; and the last - where we spent the night.

Very nice. I always thought you needed a flat bottomed boat for bass fishing. We used to anchor up in the north west end of Clear Lake in California. The bass fishermen would come out early in the morning. One day they used bows & arrows. Really!

Fishing for bass. How do you catch one without using tackle, rods, boats, spears, nets, human contact and so forth? Simple. Launch your car into the lake and watch it float with the engine running. Then it will take on water and dive nose first like the Titanic with the engine gasping it's last breath before submerging completely. When the car is pulled out, open the door and out swims a 20 lb. stripper. Yes that happenned to me.

I always thought you needed bass boat with lots and lots of HP on the stern.

It's the only way to catch up to those 70mph bass on the lake.

The last time I caught anything while out cruising was a night we stayed in a marina. After dark, the security flood lights were attracting bait fish and I caught three very nice redfish in the slip next to me. The admiral cleaned them the next day on the way to our stop and we ate them that night. It took me a week to stop finding scales on the boat, tho. :)

The mess is what keeps me from fishing from the boat. Scales, blood, guts all just attract other animals.
Now maybe if I was towing a tender that could be easily cleaned.
